The papers presented were from various topics, and the format for selection of the best papers was unique, i.e only those selected from the poster presentation were allowed to make a paper presentation and then answer questions from the panel and students. We had several clinical workshops, I opted for the Basic surgical skills workshop, conducted by Dr.Chintamani, Sir explained and demonstrated the techniques and then we got to practice as well! My friend who went for the conference in 2013 said that they have also included basic laparoscopic skill training in the BSS workshop (this is evidence that the conference is evolving as the years go by) There were many orations made by eminent speakers, the panel discussions were very relevant (Topics such as “Why are PG coaching classes gaining so much importance nowadays?”), students actively participated in the Q&A sessions. It all seemed so well synergized (this was a practical lesson on team building).
The organization was par excellence, students were encouraged to take responsibility. But please don’t come under the notion that MEDSICON is ‘just’ a research conference, no, it’s so much more.įrom the time we began registering and till the last day of the conference (and even till today) the organizers were very friendly. I had no exposure to the field of medical research till that time, and it was an excellent introduction. I was accompanying my friend who was presenting his paper at the conference. MEDSICON 2012, was the first research conference that I attended. We invite medical undergraduates to join us, and continue this process of learning and sharing their research as well as their ideas and thoughts as a community. Also, we intersperse the schedule with fun but competitive literary events like the medical quiz, just-a-minute, debate and medical pictionary. We also give emphasis on academic events like poster presentation, podium presentation, clinical case presentation, clinical photo assay and the highlight event, the panel discussion NEUROSTORM - where students put forth innovative and practical ideas in front of a panel of change-makers. We envision the 10th Annual Conference - MEDSICON 2022 as providing an enormous learning platform to undergraduates across all parts of the country with a number of hands-on workshops, ranging from basic surgical skills to emergency and critical care promoting as well as sharing research and resources under the guidance of renowned faculty. Initially a national conference, MEDSICON soon evolved into a global event, being attended by national as well as international delegates. Avantika Singh, it was bestowed with the name MEDSICON – Medical Students’ International Conference – in the year 2011. The annual conference of Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital started in the year 2007 as the World Students’ Congress. Chintamani and now in the tenth edition of its existence – MEDSICON – a unique learning experience with a plethora of workshops, academic and literary events, all directed towards the collective goal of sharing of knowledge and ideas.

I am sure this intense immersion and interaction will stimulate many young students to pursue purposeful and productive research as a part of their future careers. It is important because it is not only looking at the mechanics of research, but also looking at how research can be translated into both clinical and public health practice, and into policy. In this particular research symposium, research methodology as well as actually conducted research was discussed in depth by undergraduate students. I am happy to note that OSMECON is engaging medical students in experiencing the romance and rigor of research. It also calls for scientific temper that embodies objectivity, critical appraisal of data and rational judgment that carefully weighs the evidence. The quest for the truth involves inquisitiveness, enterprise, energy, and application in the process of discovery.
The story of science is one of constant discovery and ceaseless verification.
